The Best Shrimpy Portfolio & Trading Strategy
Ok people, I've spent all day reading the Shrimpy literature online and checking out all of Shrimpy's major resources and backtest studies. Here's the big picture of what it all looks like... (...fascinating stuff by the way). The best Shrimpy portfolio & trading strategy is: (#1) a 15% threshold rebalancing (#2) evenly distributed allocation of (#3) at least fourteen diversified (#4) midcap altcoins (roughly the top 50-350 altcoins by market cap). That's the portfolio and trading strategy that all Shrimpy's combined data and backtesting studies point to as the best. Your welcome :D I asked Shrimpy Michael (founder) on Telegram, and he confirmed: "It sounds like you have read all of our studies! [yay, me] Our results have suggested that the portfolio you describe has historically produced the highest median performance." Most (?) of the data/studies, as far as I can see, are based on a $5,000 starting investment and historical data from an overall uptrending bull / bear market in May 2017 - May 2018 (I like your style Shrimpy - include both bull / bear with an overall uptrend). Wondering what that bull / bear market looked like? Here it is, in Bitcoin (in between the grey lines): Bitcoin Bull / Bear Market (May 2017 - May 2018) Hodlers of crypto's largest asset during this period saw a roughly 500% increase in value, if they just stored Bitcoin and did nothing else. Shrimpy backtests blow it out of the water (each one of the four things linked to in bold at the top *individually* blows it out of the water). Interesting... not saying I'm an evangelist yet, just plotting it all out. There is one more caveat. It does matter what exchange(s) you use. Apparently the studies show that portfolio performance is also affected by the exchange (its trading fees and liquidity/spreads). For traders outside of the US, I think Binance is the obvious "Shrimpy-approved" exchange of choice (with $100 billion in monthly volume and 0.1% trading fees - wow). For US traders, you have 8 legal options. The following exchanges are ranked in order according to their liquidity/volume, with trading fees in (parentheses): Coinbase Pro (.5%), Kraken (.26%), Bitstamp (.5%), KuCoin (.1%), Bittrex (.2%), Binance US (.1%), CEX (.25%), and Binance DEX (.1%). The liquidity on these are a far cry from Binance's international exchange, and the trading fee percentages are for lowest-money tier takers (wow that sounds like such an insult, that's what I am?) at the time of this writing [source]. Now, the only catch perhaps to all this is of course having to store your *decentralized* digital assets in a majority of *centralized* exchanges, and hope it doesn't get Mt. Gox'd one day. That's a big drawback right now in my book. One thing you can do is diversify your assets between all the centralized exchanges (that's kind of like using a decentralized exchange, right?) and just eat the large variety of trading fees and spreads each one offers, whatever they are. Do that if you're worried about security. Actually even better, implement Shrimpy's cold wallet storage solution and keep the lion's share of your assets in a hardware wallet. That's it, I'm done. Shrimpy Source: https://blog.shrimpy.io/blog/the-best-threshold-for-cryptocurrency-rebalancing-strategies Give me some karma! Anybody?
Here’s how to do wallet security correctly. People here are giving well-intentioned but bad advice.
I’ve noticed that there are many opinions here on wallet security. However, no one is focusing on the real issue: reducing the probability of total loss by distributing risk over multiple wallets. What does this mean? A lot of folks are getting advice like “put your bitcoin on a hardware wallet,” “use a computer with no internet access for storage,” or “don’t keep your money on an exchange. Not your keys, not your bitcoin.” and implying that there’s a specific approach that should be used for most if not all of a user’s coins. The reality is that if you’re going to “be your own bank” you should use the approach that a bank uses: distribute risk. In the case of a bank, account records and transactions are recorded, checked, and then double or triple checked via audits. Cash is kept as a fraction of total deposits and is spread across multiple banks. Some cash is kept at a counter and some in the vault. If someone robs a bank, the actual loss is minimal. If someone embezzles money, the repeated checks at multiple levels of the organization will reduce the damage. If you are serious about protecting your bitcoin, don’t store it all in one place. Don’t wipe out your savings by accidentally dropping your hardware wallet in water, or forgetting the password to an encrypted volume. The risk of losing your crypto using a complicated storage methodology may outweigh the risk of losing your crypto on an exchange. Although it sounds counterintuitive, other seemingly unorthodox approaches like storing your keys with simple encryption on systems like AWS S3 or Azure Blob Storage and accessing crypto via a virtual instance could carry less risk of loss than using a hardware wallet. Bottom line: the most effective approach to not losing all of your crypto is to spread the risk over multiple possible attack vectors. Each method you use should be reasonably secure but also reasonably easy to implement and use so that mistakes won’t result in lost coins. A good example might be using a trusted exchange, a hardware wallet, a paper wallet, and cloud storage, and then splitting your money across all four. In most cases loss from theft or mistakes will be limited to a single wallet. Don’t use methods that are so complicated that it becomes more likely that the loss will be due to your mistakes rather than theft.
Which Are Your Top 5 Platforms Out Of The Top100? An Analysis.
There are currently a lot of platforms, more specifically, there are 35 platforms within the Top100 only and many do very similar things. How is one supposed to know how they differ? That was the question that I asked myself. So, I decided to compare all platforms within the Top100. I noticed that they can be put into into 5 different categories. Note: A platform is a cryptocurrency that offers smart contracts at least.
Dapps platforms are definitely a solid bet for the next years. Besides Ethereum, Neo, EOS and Stellar are probably the most known here, however, all 4 are simply extremely centralized and would need to completely change their architecture to become more decentralized. Until that happens, none of these platform can really be considered as a platform with good technology, since everyone can achieve high scalability by letting a few hundred nodes do the consensus algorithm. There is nothing difficult about that. The difficulty is achieving several million TPS with 100,000 nodes deciding consensus. Cardano, Aeternity are the only ones that seem to be able to maintain excellent decentralization with high scalability, because they scale through side-chains/horizontally. All platforms considered, Ethereum seems to be on the way there as well with its change to Casper.
Cardano has a great team, has probably the most secure PoS that was peer-reviewed in a scientific approach, has their mainnet launched, has near infinite scalability through sidechains and offers broad usability of Smart contracts in a number of programming languages.
Ethereum is a 2nd generation blockchain that allows the use of smart contracts and dapps on a smaller scope. Ethereum currently has bad scalability, though this concern could be alleviated by the soon to be implemented Sharding concept and its new PoS/PoW consensus algorithm Casper. Still, there are platforms with much more comprehensive dapp ecosystems, and much more scalability. However, Ethereum just closed a partnership with AWS. This is probalby the biggest partnership in the cryptosphere. Though, in order to be better than any of the top 3 platforms, it would need to provide Oracles, a lot more functionality for dapps, partnerships, decentralized data storage, cloud computing.
Neblio is similar to NEO and a good platform, though it has a much smaller market cap.
EOS has high scalability, though is much more centralized than Skycoin, Elastos and Cardano. However, it offers a lot of functionality for Dapps. EOS is overhyped. It is on the same level as Neblio, Neo, Aeternity, but not on the same level as Skycoin, Elastos, IOTA, Cardano.
NEO is a very established platform in this category. However, Neo dapps scale on-chain and can thus clog the network quickly. For that reason, NEO had to pick a very centralized approach to maintain scalability and it looking to rely on hand-picked nodes to maintain scalability in the future, very similar to EOS also very centralized approach of 121 handpicked nodes.
Stellar has similar goals as Ripple, only that it is more a platform than only a currency, so it does offer more functionality. . Stellar uses Byzantine Fault Tolerance in the consensus protocol, which ensures secure consensus can be reached (moving the blockchain forward) even if a large percentage of nodes are disabled or acting dishonestly. It also helps keep nodes distributed. Stellar is a good platform with tight involvement with banks. While it doesn't have as much functionality as all above platforms, it can probably carve out its niche by doing really good business with banks.
Aeternity: We’ve seen recently, that it’s difficult to scale the execution of smart contracts on the blockchain. Crypto Kitties is a great example. Something as simple as creating and trading unique assets on Ethereum bogged the network down when transaction volume soared. Ethereum and Zilliqa address this problem with Sharding. Aeternity focuses on increasing the scalability of smart contracts and dapps by moving smart contracts off-chain. Instead of running on the blockchain, smart contracts on Aeternity run in private state channels between the parties involved in the contracts. State channels are lines of communication between parties in a smart contract. They don’t touch the blockchain unless they need to for adjudication or transfer of value. Because they’re off-chain, state channel contracts can operate much more efficiently. They don’t need to pay the network for every time they compute and can also operate with greater privacy. An important aspect of smart contract and dapp development is access to outside data sources. This could mean checking the weather in London, score of a football game, or price of gold. Oracles provide access to data hosted outside the blockchain. In many blockchain projects, oracles represent a security risk and potential point of failure, since they tend to be singular, centralized data streams. Aeternity proposes decentralizing oracles with their oracle machine. Doing so would make outside data immutable and unchangeable once it reaches Aeternity’s blockchain. Of course, the data source could still be hacked, so Aeternity implements a prediction market where users can bet on the accuracy and honesty of incoming data from various oracles. It also uses prediction markets for various voting and verification purposes within the platform. Aeternity’s network runs on on a hybrid of proof of work and proof of stake. Founded by a long-time crypto-enthusiast and early colleague of Vitalik Buterin, Yanislav Malahov.
IOST: To improve speed and scalability, IOStoken uses a Proof of Believability consensus mechanism eliminating the need for an energy-hungry proof-of-work protocol, which stands as a barrier to blockchain scaling up for widespread adoption. With this system, a node is validated based on its past contributions and behaviors. Moreover, to increase fairness and to most fully embrace the decentralized nature of the blockchain, IOS uses a “fairness” algorithm that randomly distributes data to various nodes. It’s intended to support service-oriented goods and services with large customer bases. Decentralized applications and smart contracts, the hallmarks of blockchain platforms, are a priority for IOS as well.
Request Network: Req payments can be used for online purchases, business to business invoices, escrow, advanced payments and eventually IoT payments between machines. Other than payments, the Request Network is also tackling auditing and budget transparency. Businesses have the ability to track invoices to audit payments as well as record transactions for accounting purposes. Governments, nonprofits, and other organizations can also use Request to bring transparency to their budget and expenditures.
Rchain: Similar to Ethereum with smart contracts, though much more scalable at an expected 40,000 TPS and possible 100,000 TPS. However, Rchain has not launched ye..
Ziliqa: Zilliqa is building a new way of sharding, so that 10,000 tps are soon possible by being linearly scalable with the number of nodes. That means, the more nodes, the faster the network gets. They are looking at implementing privacy as well.Rchain is an ok platform.
Ethereum classic is the original Ethereum that decided not to fork after a hack for philosophical reasons. The Ethereum that we know is its fork.
2) BaaS (Blockchain-as-a-Service)
BaaS take a different route to adoption than mere Dapps platforms. They are also dapp platforms, but focus on businesses (B2B) instead of end-users (B2C) within the cryptosphere. They sell their blockchain services to companies, who then can build their own customizable blockchain as a side-chain to the BaaS without hassle and worry about technology or blockchain architecture. This is all handled by the BaaS company already and the customer only needs to change a few variables and they have their own blockchain. Side-chains are interesting, because they allow virtually infinite scaling, since there can be an infinite number of side-chains that only communicate with the main-chain occasionally and handle the majority of transactions on their own chain. This is also called horizontal scaling. The success of a BaaS platform largely depends on its ability to close partnerships to sell to large businesses and having the best usability. The more contracts they can sell to businesses and institutions, the more valuable it will be. For that reason, the BaaS with the best ability to form partnerships and do sales will win this market. Technology isn't as important here. Of course, the platform has to work without bugs, but having a platform with outstanding technology, average usability and average marketing will lose against a platform with average technology, great usability and great marketing.
VeChain is a Singapore-based project that’s building a business enterprise platform and inventory tracking system. . While it is not really competing with the above mentioned platforms, any of them can build supply management tools into their platform and compete with VeChain. However, VeChain has very strong partnerships. This gives them some protection of any of the above mentioned entering the market. Examples are verifying genuine luxury goods and food supply chains. VeChain has one of the strongest communities in the crypto world. If you are looking for something more high risk, high return, have a look into Ambrosus and Devery(Eve). Both also seem to be good at building partnerships, which is the most important characteristic for a supply chain platform required to succeed.
Icon is called the Korean Ethereum. However, it specializes more on building customizable blockchains for banks, insurance providers, hospitals, and universities, since it's a BaaS. Icon has a focus on on ID verification and payments. Icon is ery close behind Vechain, because with Samsung and Line.
WTC is a supply chain management platform, similar to Vechain, however, with fewer partnerships.
Komodo’s open-source platform is for doing transparent, anonymous, private, and fungible transactions. They are then made ultra-secure using Bitcoin’s blockchain via a Delayed Proof of Work (dPoW) protocol and decentralized crowdfunding (ICO) platform to remove middlemen from project funding. Offers services for startups to create and manage their own Blockchains. While it doesn't have as many partnerships as other BaaS, it is the only BaaS that offers privacy so far. However, that's. it such a bug competitive advantage, since it can be replicated rather swiftly.
NEM: The NEM blockchain powers what they call the Smart Asset System. This system is intended to be an open, customizable blockchain solution for any number of use cases built on top of simple, powerful API calls. NEM started as a NXT fork and introduced a new consensus mechanism called Proof of Importance (PoI), designed to reward users’ contribution to the XEM community. It is roughly based on proof-of-stake, but it also reflects how active a user is in transacting with other users. POW rewards powerful computers and also requires excessive amounts of energy. POS gives an unfair advantage to coin hoarders. The more coins they keep in their accounts, the more they earn, meaning that the rich get richer and everyone has an incentive to save coins instead of spending them.
Ark is a fork of Lisk, which is doubling down on a smaller feature set than Lisk. Ark is a good BaaS, though it doesn't have many partnerships. Furthermore, they haven't launched their platform yet.
Dragonchain: The Purpose of DragonChain is to help companies quickly and easily incorporate blockchain into their business applications. Many companies might be interested in making this transition because of the benefits associated with serving clients over a blockchain – increased efficiency and security for transactions, a reduction of costs from eliminating potential fraud and scams, etc. Dragonchain is a good BaaS, though it doesn't have many partnerships. However, it was funded by Disney, so it might be able to get partnerships more easy.
LISK: Lisk's difference to other BaaS is that side chains are independent to the main chain and have to have their own nodes. Similar to neo whole allows dapps to deploy their blockchain too. Lisk is a good BaaS, though it doesn't have many partnerships. Furthermore, they haven't launched their platform yet.
Stratis: Different to LISK, Stratis will allow businesses and organizations to create their own blockchain according to their own needs, but secured on the parent Stratis chain. Stratis’s simple interface will allow organizations to quickly and easily deploy and/or test blockchain functionality of the Ethereum, BitShares, BitCoin, Lisk and Stratis environements.Stratis is similar to Lisk, but also doesn't have many partnerships
ARDR: Ardor is a public blockchain platform that will allow people to utilize the blockchain technology of Nxt through the use of child chains. A child chain, which is a ‘light’ blockchain that can be customized to a certain extent, is designed to allow easy self-deploy for your own blockchain. Nxt claims that users will "not need to worry" about security, as that part is now handled by the main chain (Ardor). This is the chief innovation of Ardor. Ardor was evolved from NXT by the same company. NEM started as a NXT clone.
Bytom: Bytom is an interactive protocol of multiple financial assets ( digital currency, digital assets warrants, securities, dividends, bonds, intelligence information, forecasting information and other information that exist in the physical world) can be registered, exchanged, gambled and engaged in other more complicated and contract-based interoperations via Bytom.
There are really only 2 platforms in the Liquidity market, albeit the Liquidity market could be one of the biggest markets with insitutional investors entering the cryptoworld soon, since there is very little liquidity in Bitcoin. For example, say a pension fund wants to buy or sell $10B in Bitcoins. No single exchange has that many Bitcoins available and it would wreak havoc on the market. This wouldn't be a problem with Liquidity platforms, since they pull all order books together and back up market liquidity with FIAT money among other things.
QASH is used to fuel its liquid platform which will be an exchange that will distribute their liquidity pool. Its product, the Worldbook is a multi-exchange order book that matches crypto to crypto, and crypto to fiat and the reverse across all currencies. E.g., someone is selling Bitcoin is USD on exchange1 not owned by Quoine and someone is buying Bitcoin in EURO on exchange 2 not owned by Quoine. If the forex conversions and crypto conversions match then the trade will go through and the Worldbook will match it, it'll make the sale and the purchase on either exchange and each user will get what they wanted, which means exchanges with lower liquidity if they join the Worldbook will be able to fill orders and take trade fees they otherwise would miss out on.They turned it on to test it a few months ago for an hour or so and their exchange was the top exchange in the world by 4x volume for the day because all Worldbook trades ran through it. Binance wants BNB to be used on their one exchange. Qash wants their QASH token embedded in all of their partners. More info here https://www.reddit.com/CryptoCurrency/comments/8a8lnwhich_are_your_top_5_favourite_coins_out_of_the/dwyjcbb/?context=3Qash is doing something completely different as the above mentioned. It offers liquidity in an illiquid market. Sell shovels during a gold rush.
Loopring is similar to Qash, only that it functions as a dezentralized exchange, while QASH is more of an API without a user interface. It is a protocol that will enable higher liquidity between exchanges and personal wallets by pooling all orders sent to its network and fill these orders through the order books of multiple exchanges. When using Loopring, traders never have to deposit funds into an exchange to begin trading. Even with decentralized exchanges like Ether Delta, IDex, or Bitshares, you’d have to deposit your funds onto the platform, usually via an Ethereum smart contract. But with Loopring, funds always remain in user wallets and are never locked by orders. This gives you complete autonomy over your funds while trading, allowing you to cancel, trim, or increase an order before it is executed.
These are platforms that are focused on a specialized functionality
Nebulas: Similar to how google indexes webpages Nebulas will index blockchain projects, smart contracts & data using the Nebulas rank algorithm that sifts & sorts the data. Developers rewarded NAS to develop & deploy on NAS chain. Nebulas calls this developer incentive protocol – basically rewards are issued based on how often dapp/contract etc. is used, the more the better the rewards and Proof of devotion. Works like DPoS except the best, most economically incentivised developers (Bookkeepers) get the forging spots. Ensuring brains stay with the project (Cross between PoI & PoS). 2,400 TPS+, DAG used to solve the inter-transaction dependencies in the PEE (Parallel Execution Environment) feature, first crypto Wallet that supports the Lightening Network.Nebulas is the only one doing what it's doing. This makes them very unique and a good investment.
Centrality is a decentralized market place for dapps that are all connected together on a blockchain-powered system. Centrality aims to allow businesses to work together using blockchain technology. With Centrality, startups can collaborate through shared acquisition of customers, data, merchants, and content. That shared acquisition occurs across the Centrality blockchain, which hosts a number of decentralized apps called Scenes. Companies can use CENTRA tokens to purchase Scenes for their app, then leverage the power of the Centrality ecosystem to quickly scale. Some of Centrality's top dapps are, Skoot, a travel experience marketplace that consists of a virtual companion designed for free independent travelers and inbound visitors, Belong, a marketplace and an employee engagement platform that seems at helping business provide rewards for employees, Merge, a smart travel app that acts as a time management system, Ushare, a transports application that works across rental cars, public transport, taxi services, electric bikes and more. All of these dapps are able to communicate with each other and exchange data through Centrality. Centrality is the only one doing what it's doing. This makes them very unique and a good investment.
Salt: Leveraging blockchain assets to secure cash loans. Plans to offer cash loans in traditional currencies, backed by your cryptocurrency assets. Allows lenders worldwide to skip credit checks for easier access to affordable loans.Salt is a good lending platform. However, there is also Elixir, a better investment with a 30x smaller market cap, but also strong technology. Elixir has such a low market cap, because they didn't have an ICO and they only focused on development and no marketing. As of last week, they started marketing.
Aion: Today, there are hundreds of blockchains. In the coming years, those hundreds will become thousands and—with ,widespread adoption by mainstream business and government—millions. Blockchains don’t talk to each other at all right now, they are like the PCs of the 1980s. The Aion network is able to support custom blockchain architectures while still allowing for cross-chain interoperability by enabling users to exchange data between any Aion-compliant blockchains by making use of an interchain framework that allows for messages to be relayed between blockchains in a completely trust-free manner.
Waves is a decentralized exchange and crowdfunding platform by letting companies and projects to issue and manage their own digital coin tokens to raise money.
ChainLink is a decentralized oracle service, the first of its kind. Oracles are defined as an ‘agent’ that finds and verifies real-world occurrences and submits this information to a blockchain to be used in smart contracts. With ChainLink, smart contract users can use the network’s oracles to retrieve data from off-chain application program interfaces (APIs), data pools, and other resources and integrate them into the blockchain and smart contracts. Basically, ChainLink takes information that is external to blockchain applications and puts it on-chain. The difference to Aeternity is that Chainlink deploys the smart contracts on the Ethereum blockchain. Chainlink's main functionality is oracles, a functionality also offered by IOTA.
QTUM: Smart Contracts on the Bitcoin blockchain. QTUM is a smart contracts for BTC, a very niche market. Furthermore, BTC might offer smart contracts itself soon and make QTUM obsolete. Hopefully QTUM will expand into more smart contracts functionality to become relevant again.
Nebulas with Indexing the Blockchain world and Salt with Lending are probably the 2 most interesting platforms here. Nebulas doesn't have a single competitor, though there are several competitors to Salt with a much smaller market cap and with similar development progress, ELIX.
There are 3 platforms that have not been discussed yet. However, they can do most what the above platforms can do and have the potential to steal the market of all above mentioned platforms. That's why I call them behemoths. 1.) Skycoin :Skycoin is building what Pied Piper is building in the series HBO's Silicon Valley, a completely decentralized internet that is not run by ISPs, but by IoT devices, making telecom providers like Comcast, ISPs who can control bandwith, cost, net neutrality, filters, access etc. obsolete and completely decentralize them. Skycoin offers what 36 coins are offering:
If you think that the decentralized Internet will blow all other markets out of the water and will be the biggest invention of this decade, then Skycoin is your pick, because covers that and what 27 coins do. 2.) IOTA: With the launch of Q 1 week ago, IOTA is about to offer what 27 platforms within the Top 100 are offering (!) and they are probably looking to replace several more.
10 Smart Contract and Dapps platforms (Cardano, Ethereum, Neblio, EOS, Stellar, Neo, Rchain, IOST, Ziliqa, Eth classic)
2 Oracles (Aeternity, ChainLink)
3 Outsourced Cloud Computing (DBC, Aelf, Golem)
IOTA is at the same level as Skycoin and Elastos. However, SKY's flagship product is the Decentralized Internet and ELA's is the most comprehensive dapps operating system in the cryptosphere, which IOTA cannot really replicate in the near future, because it takes years of reseach and development. This protects ELA and SKY from IOTA for now. However, it looks like IOTA can snatch up all the smaller, easier to replicate markets, such as cloud computing, oracles, smart contracts, decentralized storage, currency exchange and soon possibly also supply chain management, BaaS functionality, privacy, security identification since none of those are really hard to build. However, Skycoin and Elastos will probably focus on their flagships and leave IOTA to scoop up all the rest. It will be an interesting year. 3.) Elastos started out as a mobile operating system 18 years ago and has now moved towards a smart contracts platform, operating system and a runtime environment for Dapps. Thanks to side-chains they are near infinitely scalable and is thus also very decentralized. Elastos is offering what 36 coins are offering
If you are very convinced that BaaS solutions and dapps platforms will be the big winners for 2018, then Elastos is your pick as far as I can see, because it is probably the best BaaS and dapps platform with near infinite scalability and the best decentralization and thus does what 32 coins do. 3 Closing Questions All of the above findings leave me with those 3 questions. What are your thoughts?
Why invest in any of Dapps platforms (Cardano, Neblio, EOS, Stellar, Neo, Aeternity, Rchain, IOST, Ziliqa, Ethereum, Eth classic) when Elastos and Skycoin do everything they do, are much more decentralized and scalable through side-chain/off-chain/horizontal scaling and offer lots more functionality beyond that?
Why invest in any BaaS (Ontology, Komodo, NEM, Ark ,Dragonchain, LISK, Stratis, ARDR) if ICX and VeChain offer everything what all of the above offer and already have 10x more partnerships than their competitors?
It looks like out of all 35 platforms, only 5 are really strong: IOTA, Skycoin, Elastos, VeChain, ICX. While the first 3 seem to cover already almost half of the top 100, the last 2 really convince in the partnership department. What's the argument for investing in any of the 30 other platforms? Maybe that they can specialise on a specific feature set, however, is this really a convincing argument? The cryptoworld is harsh and if you can't keep up with competition, you'll be moved out of the market quickly.
My 5 Favorite Coins Under $5 Million Market Cap and Why - Full Analysis
*Note: This article was copied from my medium article and then formatted for Reddit. For the best reading experience please read on medium. However, I wanted to format it for reddit so people could read it here on Reddit if they preferred. *
In this article, I will be sharing with you my 5 favorite coins that are currently sitting under a $5 million market cap. Before we get into things, I first want to cover all of my bases and say this is not investment advice. Please do your own research before making any investments. The coins I will be sharing are much riskier investments, so make sure to #DYOR.
Please keep in mind that these are all very risky investments and are not your $100 million + projects. These are high risk and high reward projects that will require you to do your own research. These investments aren't for everybody, but I wanted to share with you my thoughts on these coins.
Please follow me on Twitter for more updates, articles, and my thoughts on various other crypto related topics.
1. EquiTrader (EQT): $3.6 Million Market Cap
This is my favorite project that is currently under a $5 million market cap. EquiTrader is a social platform for traders where they can share their ideas and get rewarded by the community. EQT comes equipped with trading charts, indicators, trading tools and other features which will make it easy to make technical analysis. You will also have the ability to shadow other traders and make automatic trades based on what they do.
Why I Like EquiTrader
There are a lot of reasons why I’m bullish on EQT, the main ones our outlined below:
Perfect Product for Crypto
Having a social platform where traders can share their investment analysis and then get rewarded is a perfect concept for this market. I think that a lot of the major crypto influencers will get on this platform and utilize it, which will then in turn help EQT get bigger. Once the platform is up and running the “crypto OGs” will do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to marketing because it benefits them too. I’m a big fan of any crypto project where their main audience is the crypto market. This is an easy foot in the door and will allow the project to gain traction much quicker. I think EQT will do this as well.
Recently Acquired by a Major Crypto Influencer
It was recently announced that EquiTrader was acquired by Aluna.Social, which is a company owned by Alvin Lee (https://twitter.com/onemanatatime). Having a big player behind the platform will be extremely beneficial once the platform is launched and he can start promoting it. Plus this adds a lot of credibility behind the project as well. I’m a BIG fan of this news.
Many Upcoming Catalysts on Roadmap
Public release of the EQT platform is planned for Q4 of this year and I’d expect a lot of traction to start at this point. In Q1 of 2018 they will release the iOS and Android apps, Q2 the beta of the social trading platform will be released (huge news) and then in Q3 the social trading platform will be released to the public. We have at least a whole year of upcoming catalysts that will all have a major impact on the price.
Currently Only Trading on Coin Exchange
At this point you can only buy EQT on Coinexchange.io. It was listed on Cryptopia previously but when they did a coin swap they were removed. Why is this a good thing? The EQT team is in discussion with Cryptopia to be added now that the swap has been completed. Once this happens I’d expect a major pump. This will happen very soon so the major discount that EQT is currently trading at probably won’t last long.
Proof of Stake: 30% per Year Returns
As mentioned above, they recently did a coin swap and went from a PoW chain to a PoS one where you can get 30% annual returns from staking. This is an awesome return. I have already seen some great returns from staking.
What I Don’t Like
The biggest complaint I have about EQT is the small issue and delay they have had doing the coin swap. Before the coin swap they told everyone to move their coins to CoinExchange.io and the swap would happen automatically, which worked great for those who followed the instructions. However, there are a lot of people that didn’t do this and now they are having to manually swap these coins. This has caused a long delay in terms of being relisted on Cryptopia, which in turn has hurt the price. This isn’t a huge deal, but it is a small complaint I have.
With a lot of catalysts on the roadmap until 2019, the potential of EquiTrader is hard to predict. However, I think a 10x from here, which would make the market cap only $34 million, is a very real possibility within 3 months. Even after a 10x, I still think it could get closer to $75 million before it would be getting close to what I think it should be valued at. As you can see, I think there is a lot of room for EQT to grow and I’m expecting it to do just that.
2. Hush (HUSH): $1.1 Million Market Cap
Hush is a very, very close second when it comes to my top 5 favorite projects under $5 million market cap. This project might have the most potential out of all of the coins in this list too. Hush is an anonymous coin that utilizes the Zerocash protocol that is forked from Zcash. There are quite a few Zcash forks out there, but this is the best one in my opinion (and the cheapest). It is a fairly new coin that launched in July 2017 so there have only been a few months worth of development.
Why I Like Hush
There is a lot to like about Hush and the reasons are explained below.
One of the Best Anon Coins
Hush is a fork of Zcash but without the founders reward, which is the only major knock of Zcash. So without the founders reward it becomes a top notch anon coin tech wise. There are other Zcash forks out there, but none of them are sitting at this low of a market cap, which creates a huge opportunity for Hush. A very similar coin to Hush is ZenCash, which currently sits at a $14 million market cap, is another Zcash fork without some of the features of Hush. Combine all of this with the major pump all anon coins have been going through lately and Hush is looking prime.
One of the members of the Zcash dev team, David Mercer, is now the lead dev for Hush. This is huge. Not only is he the lead dev but he is also working full time on Hush, which means all of the promised features on the roadmap will have a good shot at being completed. Along with the lead dev, there are 6 total team members. The size and talent on this team is practically unheard for a coin with such a small market cap. This is a major reason for me being bullish. I know that this team will get things done, which is all you can ask from a team.
Counterparty on Hush
This is the biggest reason I like Hush so much. They are planning on porting Counterparty to Hush and this will allow people to create Counterparty based assets with the security of Hush. They are also planning on having these assets being compatible with Ethereum smart contracts. These are killer features that make Hush a unique project.
Only Trading on Cryptopia
At this moment the only place to purchase HUSH is on Cryptopia. The Hush team has confirmed they have been in contact with Bittrex and I don’t think it’ll be long before they are added. Take advantage of it being only on Cryptopia before it gets added to other exchanges, once that happens the price is going to take off.
What I Don’t Like
The major knock on Hush is their marketing. They are not putting much effort into spreading awareness. Their reasoning behind this is that they feel like they don’t have a finished product to market yet and that good tech will eventually win out. I like seeing a team that prides themselves on the tech of their project, but at some point they are going to have to start marketing it. Marketing plays a huge role in crypto. With all of that being said, I’m not complaining because it gives me more time to accumulate at these low prices. The only way people find Hush is from actually doing their own research. You won’t find it being shilled much on twitter because no one really knows about it. This will probably be changing in the near future.
The $1.1 million market cap it is currently sitting at is almost funny. I can’t believe it is so low. This coin should be sitting at an easy $10 million market cap SOLELY based off of what the project currently is. Factor in some of the upcoming features such as the Counterparty port and a standalone HUSH messenger and I think Hush could be worth at least $50 million in 6–12 months, if not higher. The reason I say it could be higher is because of the dev team. I’m very confident in the team and believe that in 12 months from now they will be working on features that will blow the current features out of the water.
3. Tokes (TKS): $1.8 Million Market Cap
Coming in at 3rd in my top 5 is a coin called Tokes. I’m a big fan and this is one of my long term plays that I think will be worth a ton in a few years time. This isn’t going to be a 10x coin in 2 months, but in 2 years it very well may be a 100x coin. Keep that in mind while reading. Tokes is a Waves based asset that is geared towards the marijuana business. They are looking to help businesses handle their money and provide a better payment solution for both consumers and businesses. They are also doing a few other really interesting things in this space and I will explain why I like Tokes in the next section.
Why I Like Tokes
Tokes is a coin based around the marijuana business, but it does much more than the other pot coins out there. Tokes is looking to actually solve real world issues in the marijuana business and has partnerships with major players in their area. I will touch more on all of these things, but I want to make ti clear this isn’t just a “pot currency”.
Provides a Fiat Gateway
A major issue for marijuana businesses is that they are forced to operate as a cash-only business due to the federal laws that make banks not want to work with them. This is a major problem within the cannabis industry and Tokes is trying to solve this by creating a fiat gateway. Tokes allows for cash to be converted to TKS and vice versa so that it can stored electronically without the need to carry cash around. They also offer no fiat volatility risk because of their pegging system. This means that the $100,000 of cash they turn into TKS will remain $100,000 when they withdraw it. This is a major issue that is being solved by Tokes and gives their project immediate value and use cases. Keep in mind that this is something they are working on implementing and hasn’t actually been developed yet.
Major Partnerships Secured
Tokes is located in Las Vegas, where marijuana laws are some of the most lenient, and they have been hard at work building relationships and partnerships with the marijuana businesses in that area. Some of their partnerships are as follows:
Pisos: A dispensary in Vegas that is their first partner in their pilot program Herbology Tours: Tokes purchased a 10% ownership stake in this company. More on this in a minute. Cannabis Delivery Startup in California: Payment integration into their mobile app
Tokes purchased a 10% ownership stake in a Las Vegas cannabis tourism company and this has a couple of really cool benefits. First, it gives Tokes a foot in the door with a marijuana company where they can start integrating and testing their system. Second, it’s a great way to get their name out there and start spreading awareness. This will go a long way to help both consumer and business adoption. The last major benefit of this ownership stake is that they will get 10% of all of the revenue from Herbology Tours, which will be used to help grow Tokes. This revenue will also be used as a way to potentially buy and burn coins (more in the next section).
Revenue Used to Burn Coins
Tokes plans on getting into other aspects of the marijuana business and portions of this revenue will possibly be used to buy and then burn the coins, thus decreasing the supply. The revenue that they generate from their 10% ownership stake in Herbology Tours will also be used to burn coins. Im a big fan of coins that burn their own supply and the markets go crazy when this happens (See $TRIG and $DAR). It’s worth noting that they are planning on burning coins with revenue, but it is not 100% concrete yet.
Their roadmap extends all the way into Q4 of 2018, which is good to see. There are also a lot of good things to look forward to and a lot of catalyst that should help the price increase along the way. Check out the roadmap here
What I Don’t Like
The biggest issue I have with Tokes is their supply problem they have. Currently, there are only around 960k in circulation out of the total supply of 50 million (according to Coin Market Cap). The founders currently own the remaining ~40 million tokens. The good news is they are actively trying to solve this issue and release these tokens in a way that won’t hurt the price. One of the main ways they hope to remedy this situation is by putting all of the tokens in a smart contract and distributing it during a 3 year period. You can read more about their plans here.
I’m not a big fan of the current supply issues, but I think the founders are on the ball on this issue and will figure it our without too many problems. Investment Potential I really like the fact that Tokes solves a real issue by providing a store of value for cannabis businesses and allowing them to move away from cash only operations. This has so much value. Combine that with their current partnerships, pilot program and their upcoming roadmap and Tokes looks like a real good long term investment.
Where Tokes could really see their value skyrocket is after they get a foothold in Las Vegas and establish their name in the cannabis industry, they will be the first company other cannabis companies call once their states become legal. Like I mentioned before, this is a longer term play but could be huge in a few years time. In the short term, I think they could easily get to ~$25 million just based off of continuing to lock in partnerships, releasing their mobile app and solving their supply issues.
4. SmartCash (SMART): $2.5 Million Market Cap
Coming in at 4th on my list is SmartCash. SmartCash is a fork of Zcoin, but it has a some of the same features as Dash along with a few unqiue twists that makes this coin very undervalued. The coin itself was started less than 3 months ago, so the project itself is still very new.
Why I Like SmartCash
Any anon coins right now that haven’t pumped yet are of interest to me. It seems like everyday a new anon coin is pumping and the fact that SmartCash hasn’t yet is appealing. Not only has the coin not pumped yet, but it has a super small market cap and is a better coin than the majority of the other anon coins out there. Aside from it being an anon coin, the following reasons are why I like this project.
Insane Staking with SmartRewards
This is a major reason for this coin being in my top 5. They have a cool feature called SmartRewards which is a way for people that hold their coins in their wallet to get rewarded. The only requirements are that you must have at least 1000 coins and hold them for at least a month, starting on the 25th of each month. For example, you transfer 5,000 coins on September 16th then you would be rewarded on October 25th. Since this coin is so new, there has only been one completed round of payouts so far. During this first round each person eligible made 400% returns. Example, if you had 1,000 coins in there then you would have been paid 4,000 coins!
400% is insane and for this second round of payouts things are a little less extreme. At the time of writing this (halfway through the month) the current estimated payout is going to be 37%, still not bad at all! This numbers goes up as the month goes on and less addresses become eligible. The reason for the drop off is because there are more eligible addresses than the first round. These rewards are funded by taking 15% of all of the coins mined from each block and then on the 25th of each month are distributed to addresses that hold at least 1000 coins. Not only are the returns very good, but this is also a great strategy to lock up coins and keep the price from dropping too much. SmartRewards is a huge reason for me being in this coin and I think it will be very popular once more people find out about it.
Great Funding System I’m a big fan of their funding system and how they split the block reward. Their funding structure is as follows:
Of the 80% allocated to the community, 70% of it goes to the community treasury and 30% of it goes to funding the team. I like the reversed model they have of paying the community the bulk of the rewards and the miners the least. I think this is a good way to get people involved and help grow the coin via community funded projects.
Governance System With a large chunk of all coins mined going towards community treasury it gives the community a lot of coins to use on various proposals that will be voted on by the community. These proposals can be pretty much anything helping the coin grow and the community gets to determine if it is a good idea or not. Each vote is equal to 1 smart cash.
As of writing this, there have been 3 community proposals that have been funded. Those 3 include:
Venezuela Food + Marketing Campaign: 2.8 million SmartCash
As the community gets larger, I’d expect the number and quality of proposals to improve and then we will really get to see the benefits of this funding system.
Instant Transactions via InstantPay
This is a feature that is going to be implemented in the near future and would allow for near instant transactions. This is crucial to have if you are trying to be a coin that is used for everyday purchases, which SmartCash is trying to do.
Not on any Major Exchanges
Currently, the exchange with the largest volume where you can buy SmartCash is Stocks.Exchange and Cryptopia. Whenever Bittrex or Poloniex get around to adding this coin there should be a nice pump. Now is the time to accumulate!
What I Don’t Like
I’m not a fan of coins with a large supply of coins and SmartCash has 5 billion coins as its max supply (451 million circulating). The idea behind having so many coins was to become the everyday coin that is used and its easier if people are paying in a small amounts. I get the idea behind it, but I would still prefer a coin with a smaller supply.
This coin is still fairly new and a lot of people have still never heard of this coin. I think as more people become aware of SmartRewards and the insane monthly returns that people will start to flow into this coin. Couple that with things such as masternodes (coming soon), InstantPay, a functioning governance system, and anonymous transactions and you have a severely undervalued coin at $2.5 million. Short term potential for this coin is at least $10 million market cap, but $25 million within a few months is completely reasonable. This coin has all of the characteristics of coins that are worth hundreds of millions of dollars so I don’t plan on selling this coin for a while.
5. Crypto Bullion (CBX): $1.3 Million Market Cap
Last but not least we have Crypto Bullion, which currently has a market cap of $1.3 million. This coin was originally developed in 2013 but has seen recent improvements that have made it a great dark horse pick. This coin is a 100% proof of stake coin that was originally created as a way to store value with a yearly interest rate of 2%. as mentioned above, it has become way more than this with the new developments that are currently under way. Let’s take a look at why I like this coin.
Why I Like Crypto Bullion
Crypto Bullion will be having a hard fork before the end of the month where they will be implementing quite a few new features that I think takes this coin to the next level. Some of these features are as follows:
Masterbodes are Coming
Once the hard fork occurs, masternodes will be coming to CBX along with Zerocoin anonymity. Once the masternodes have been implented it will make CBX one of the cheapest masternode coins on the market. These masternodes will earn roughly 9% — 18% yearly plus any of the fees they make from transactions. It will cost 2,000 coins to run your own masternode, which is currently around $2,000.
They have a very solid 2017 roadmap leading into 2018 and they are planning on releasing a 2018 roadmap once this one is completed. I would expect a lot of cool new features to be added on the next roadmap. See their roadmap here
New Wallet Being Released
They are currently putting the final touches on a new wallet and getting ready for the hardfork. All of this should be happening by the end of September.
As of right now, there are only around 1 million coins with a very low inflation rate of 2% per year. With staking, you would make around 6% per year in interest. This means the coins are rare and scarce.
What I Don’t Like
From what I have seen, the communication from the dev is subpar and you can be left in the dark at times. Also, even though they have some cool features in the pipeline, they aren’t really bringing anything new to the market.
I think CBX has built itself a nice little niche with becoming a true store of wealth, unlike Bitcoin, and that fact alone should make it worth more than its current market cap. However, with the upcoming hardfork that will bring masternodes and a new wallet we should see a lot more investor interested in this coin. I’m holding this coin until at least a $10 million market cap and probably even longer depending on what kind of developments happen in the meantime.
I’m not going to dive deep into any of these coins below, but they are worth mentioning.
Circuits of Value (COVAL): $4.6 million market cap
Zoin (ZOI): $524k market cap
Terracoin (TRC): $2.5 million market cap
AdShares (ADST): $1.6 million market cap
Linx (LINX): $557k market cap
Wrapping this Up
That is going to bring this article to an end. I hope you enjoyed reading and found a coin or two that might interest you. These 5 coins are all coins that I will be holding for nothing less than 10x each, probably even more. These are not your “safe investment” coins by a long stretch, but if you’re looking for some high risk/high reward coins then these might be of interest to you. I’d love to know what coins you are all fans of that I didn’t put on the list. Please share in the comments below. After ICON the next and only ICO, Don Tapscott is an advisor for, Jibrel Network - Why I think its the sleeping giant and why you should have a look at this project. Thoughts below.
Jibrel Network Settle in boys, this is a long one. I am about to tell you about one of the most promising projects/ICOs of this year, the Jibrel Network. What does it do? Essentially, the Jibrel Network provides currencies, equities, commodities and other financial assets and instruments as ERC-20 tokens and puts them on the blockchain. It does that to provide incomparable liquidity and decrease friction costs. Additionally, it automates certain processes such as dividend distribution and so on. The Jibrel Network has a native token, known as JNT, which will be used as the ‘liquid’ underlying asset of the Jibrel AG fund’s portfolio. Additionally, it is a deflationary currency because every time JNT is used as jGas (transfer of ownership; purchase of tokenized assets) it is burned. >Wait, I’ve heard this before, with LAtoken and Veratesium, this is a tried and tested scam. Previous attempts at the market didn't have what Jibrel have – smart regulation and insured 2-way (i.e. physical asset to tokens, tokens to physical assets liquidity). All financial assets will be tokenized as programmable CryDRs, which would entail no regulatory or legal risks whatsoever. And, why does this make it better than all the others? Due to the Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations involved in trading real-world assets, there also exists an investor registry that only allows for certain CryDRs to be traded amongst addresses that have been verified by Jibrel. Meaning that, for example, only brokers and fund managers can interact in certain ways with the network. In the traditional economy, regulation is placed around certain asset classes to manage fraud, market, credit and systemic risk. Currencies, commodities and securities all have different regulations across different jurisdictions. The Jibrel Network team has worked (and continues to work) tirelessly with their regulatory advisors to translate real-world regulation into smart regulation (Solidity code). These things will update in near real time as regulation laws and rules amend, so will the smart contract. >Pfft, where’s the proof? Well they’re bringing out a MVP usable by any type of user. jWallet and jCash (or jFiat)! Any supposed Tether scams are now dead in the water as we have real, audited tokenized fiat currency. In 6 different forms, no less! Who audits this? The Swiss offices of PricewaterhouseCoopers (doing business under the brand PwC), one of the Big 4 auditing/accounting firms. They will check Jibrel’s position of financial performance and position, cash flows, and other subtle aspects of their financial activities. PwC audits will be public and sufficiently frequent (most likely biannual). The actual code itself? Already been audited by New Alchemy – leaders in smart contract auditing, so that’s all functional.1 jCash is simple enough, It’s Tether but legitimate and in 6 different currencies right off the bat. jUSD, jEUR, jCNY, jAED, jRUB and jGBP. Any fiat currency can be implemented (as long as there is enough demand to implement it). Additionally, Jibrel will always be able to cover their liabilities due to the 3-4x assets in excess of liabilities. Not only that, but the Jibrel DAO (when it activates) will self-regulate the fund through different rules and scenarios encoded in the smart contract – a completely decentralised, on-chain bank. The real work of art, jWallet The jWallet does all the transaction signing, all the key storage, etc. locally - you never have to share your private keys, they never leave your browser. You can even store them in the browser cache. It doesn't make sense to share your keys with a service (you login with email) - there are no benefits to that. It’s strange to store large sums of money in a Chrome extension. https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/22/with-ethereum-wallets-under-constant-attack-jibrel-network-decided-to-build-their-own/ But wait, there's more, when it is up and going, The Jibrel DAO will act as an artificial trading curb, meaning that if the price sinks too low too fast, the DAO will kick in and buy up any oversold JNT, which would equate to roughly 50%. Same thing if it rises too quickly, obvs whale pnd, its curbing it! But there’s only one real downside to that.. unfortunately, this won’t be implemented for quite a while. Target is Q4 2018 for DAO being implemented and a few months (could be up to 6 months) after to be really kicked into gear. Why waiting so long after implementation? Well that’s because DAO needs to build up a buffer to be safe during it’s operation, Jibrel devs are smart and they know DAO cannot be fully operational right off the bat without any serious precautions. >That sounds great, I’ll wait until after ICO when it dumps ;) No mate, not with this buying pressure. Jibrel is very investor focused (see partnerships) and will be listing itself on as many exchanges as possible, with two exchanges being in the top 5 in volume (The CEO,Yazan won't say which, most likely HitBTC and a mystery second). Additionally, new jCash will be rolled out all the time, every new currency would be a new audience that’s getting exposed to this company as stated above. But ultimately you don’t have to invest, they can do it with or without you. This is for banks and other financial institutions. With the infrastructure Jibrel is implementing, banks can save up to 25 billion dollars a year. . Banks will be able to interact with their own digital assets, completely free of all the legal hassle they had before, while still being perfectly above board. It’s also recession proof. Any trader convinced that another GFC is coming doesn’t have to be purely cash anymore. Its protected by reducing systemic risk in its ecosystem, (through separation, Close monitoring, regulation and risk assessment being the Basel III regulatory framework). Again don’t worry, this is all covered in its smart regulation. Also note the ICO is not paired with ETH like many ICO's. 1 ETH = x amount of tokens. Due to volatility of the tokens its ICO is pegged at 0.25 cents offer. So if ETH is high or BTC is high you will get more tokens. This makes much better sense as a token structure and why I believe it hasn't sold out yet, a lot of people are waiting in the sidelines. Now for the juicy part (in case previous parts weren’t juicy enough for you thirsty kids), the advisors and partnerships: They have freaking Eddy Zuaiter as an advisor, the ex-COO of Soros fund management chatting with them. The man who oversaw 2.5 billion dollars worth of trade positions joined jibrel because:
He sees Jibrel as an opportunity to learn more about the space
He sees Jibrel as an opportunity to directly be involved, help them be well capitalized, survive the bubble, and grow. He sees the potential to pull off an Amazon (his words).
Some of the NEX team went through the questions asked a couple of days ago, but due to the answers being posted sporadically, i thought it might be better collating answers and reposting for visibility! I highly recommend reading through if you are interested in NEX! NEX team marked as U = u/Unignorant, C = u/Canesin, L = u/Localalhost_coz Original post here Q: What is the NEX marketing plan to grow in terms of a customer base ? And how far is the team away from a finished product? During most of the interviews I noticed the team reference comparison to Binance, how does the interface match binance in a decentralized environment? (u/sheldonbraganza) (U)We will have a complete product out on TestNet in Q2, and a fully working cross-chain exchange on the NEO and Ethereum networks in Q3. NEX is marketing to two primary groups of users: (1) Mainstream users who want an easier experience buying altcoins with cryptocurrency. Through our network of banking partners, we will make it easy for anyone in the world to buy tokens on NEO, ETH (and eventually other chains) using their national currencies. (2) Bots and traders: we aim to have best-in-class trading APIs for high performance, computational trading. We will have better and faster APIs than today's centralized exchanges, with the added benefit of these systems running on decentralized networks The point of our off-chain matching engine tech is to enable the same (or better!) usability as an exchange like Binance, while keeping around the decentralized model. The off-chain engine makes trading just as performant as today's centralized exchanges, and makes it much easier to support the kind of cross-chain trading functionality that has long been a pipe dream for decentralized exchanges. We are very much inspired by other exchanges like Coinbase in this regard, and we will be the first DEX to achieve this. (C) Just to remember that NEX is also going after costumers that usually are not considered by other exchanges with its features to facilitate peer to peer payments requests, invoicing and tipping/gifts. Q:Can you elaborate on NEX staking? The whitepaper was fuzzy about it and had terms like "staking percentage". (u/r3dh4r7) (U) The NEX staking rate will be from 25-75%. Committing to stake for one day gives a rate of 25%, which increases linearly to a rate of 75% if you are willing to stake for 2 years By staking rate, we mean the percentage of revenue you will get from NEX fee collection proportional to the tokens you hold. For example, if you hold 10% of all NEX tokens and are staking at a rate of 75%, then you will receive .10 * .75 = 7.5% of all fee revenue generated by NEX over that period. We will confirm these details in an updated white paper release coming out today or tomorrow. ~ If you commit for two years, the first year will still be at 75%. Q:How soon do you introduce Fiat pairs? (u/coinonymous1) (U) Our network of banking partners will begin to go live in Q2. That means users will be able to enter the ecosystem with national currencies through the NEX extension and web-based exchange interface. (C) To clarify, this are not direct trading pairs on the exchange itself (i.e. JPY/NEX) but a easy method to on ramp and cashout using the tools. Users will be able to acquire NEO and GAS with fiat and any other tokens traded at NEX will be using the exchange itself. Q: The chrome extension is great but why should I still rely on desktop to access NEX interface ? When can we expect Iphone/ Android App? (u/cryptobuddy_1712) (U) We are planning native android/iOS apps. Depending on how fast we can grow, they may be out by Q3. (C) Mobile presence is a complex topic, depending of how much of the full experience you want to provide - that will depend on the support shown by 3rd party wallets, if they adopt NEX APIs. Q: Will you guys be supporting Ledger integration any time soon? Nex chrome add-on, Nex exchange integration...?! Plans to list the Nex token on other exchanges before the release of your own? What are the plans to continue supporting Neon wallet now that Nex came out with their extension for chrome? Will Nex exchange introduce fiat deposits/withdrawals? (u/mihai_ss) (U) Yes, ledger is on the roadmap. We cannot comment on other exchange listings right now. We love and will continue to support Neon wallet (you are speaking to its creator :) as a great desktop wallet and complementary partner to our extension. NEX will support national currencies in/out of the exchange through our network of banking partners. (C) Not only ledger but hardware wallets in general. Ledger is priority currently given that it is quite popular in NEO. We have to have in mind that NEX is trying to do a lot of different things to make usage easier to new users (that probably don't have a ledger!), there is currently about 96k users of it (more than this sub) so we will focus on fixing the corner cases and issues that appears frequently with such large user base first. Q:More and more people are using mobile apps for trading. Don't you think nex should also have its own iOS and Android app. Are the API being developed future proof to integrate with mobile apps for trading and seeing candle charts. (u/Cryptobanku) (U) We agree with the power for mobile, and future proofing the API is 100% on our mind. Longer term, we are planning native iOS/android apps. Q:So NEX is a security right? What does that mean exactly? The Token only will be available on the neon exchange? In order to get the exchange dividends are we gonna be forced to put our tokens on stake mode? If so, once we put our tokens on stake mode does that mean we are not gonna be able to move them or sell them for a specific period of time? (u/sersimovi) (U) NEX is a registered European security. It will be traded on NEX exchange, but that is not the only place it will be traded (I cannot say more than that right now). Being a registered security is amazing for investors. It means that all of the sketchy things that so often happen with cryprocurrencies/tokens (things like market manipulation or insider trading) are made explicitly illegal. It also means that we, as a company, go through an extensive audit. For that, we have partnered with the top tier accounting firm Ernst and Young. The staking model means that you commit to staking your NEX for a certain amount of time to receive a share of fee revenue. The minimum amount of time you can stake NEX is one day. The maximum time you can stake is two years. While staked, you cannot move or sell the NEX tokens. (C) All that plus the investor don't need to fear it will crash because someone classified it as a security in the future. Q:When will the official sale date be announced and when will the official tokens per neo be determined? (u/rborsb9) (L) We are still working with our legal partners to determine a final sale date, but it will be sometime at the end of April. The tokens per Neo/Gas will be determined from the 10 day moving average of the price before the sale begins. Q:What do you think sets NEX apart from the countless other DEXs that are starting up right now? Why should people invest in NEX vs Switcheo/Etherdelta/Binance(once they release)? (U) NEX will be the first usable, performant, and cross-chain DEX. Out of all the exchanges you mentioned, none of them are using an off-chain matching engine, which quite simply means none of them can do what we are doing. In addition to that, NEX has by far the most generous revenue share model of any exchange you have mentioned. This is because we are embracing being a security (not hiding behind some questionably legal utility token). The people who invest in us will be treated very well by this model. As for competitors: Switcheo unfortunately doesn't work. There is no volume, and the SC is broken (or at least didn't work when I tried it; the transaction failed and it stole the small amount of GAS I tried to trade). Etherdelta has higher volume but still ridiculously low overall. And again, just try to use Etherdelta... it is a usability disaster. There is really no comparison here. Binance might do something interesting, if they decide to do anything. But we have better technical talent than Binance, so I am not too worried. Q:What % volume neon exchange will support compared with top centralized exchanges? Thanks big neo fan! (u/myfriendbaubau) (U) We will support just as much volume as today's centralized exchanges. Q: Will NEX have a stable coin? (u/masi252) (U) We have looked into various implementations and ideas surrounding stable coins and have determined that it is not something we are planning on doing in the near future. Cont: What about when Alchemint releases? (u/Bing0to) (C) We wanted to do a fundamental strong stable coin that was capital efficient. Unfortunately there is some pre-requisites for that to be possible that currently is lacking in crypto markets. We will continue to monitor how this space evolves and our ideas are stored waiting the future when they can be applied. Q:Can we expect the erc20 token trading earlier than q3? (u/markerizza) (U) Q3 is the current roadmap projection. It is possible it will happen earlier depending on our growth. Q: Will the token sale be via smart contract, so that we recieve our tokens right away? (u/Ebrii) (U) Yes Q: will you guys have an official subreddit and telegram anytime soon? (u/markerizza) (U) No, we dislike the idea of project oriented telegrams. There are too many opportunities for scammers. We may have a subreddit in the future, but not anytime soon. Q: What is the plan to get liquidity on the platform? It seems to be the biggest problem with current DEXs. (u/Mutedtommy) (U) We have strategic partnerships for this. We are also working with other partners to develop some nice APIs for high performance trading. Q: On the site you say that the ORIGINAL winners can participate in the second round (9000$) options, do you mean only the first round lottery winners or the first and second round winners combined? (u/FrancoisFrancis) (U) Any lottery winners (whether first or second draw) have the opportunity to participate in both rounds 1 and 2. Please see this medium post for clarification: https://medium.com/neon-exchange/nex-extension-and-lottery-q-a-667e56f58e4a Q: If you chose to participate in round 2 from the KYC process, does that mean you are guaranteed a spot? The medium article seems to indicate there will be an additional lottery from those who selected that option to see who from round one is eligible for round 2. (u/DwyerMatt) No one is guaranteed a spot in round 2. It is even possible (though extremely unlikely) that all NEX is sold out in round one. This would happen if everyone who is selected goes through KYC and participates at 100%. (U) Q: Will NEX tokens only be tradeable on NEX or is there a chance of it being listed on other exchanges like Binance? (u/Frank_Sinatra88) (U) See an answer above. Not just NEX, but I can't say more than that right now. Q: How do you see NEO compare to other coins on its network ? Like another coin could be valued more than NEO itself ? And will NEX always be bound to NEO? (u/BN_Boi) (U) It is unlikely but possible that a NEP5 token could eventually achieve a higher marketcap than NEO itself. NEX is not bound to NEO much at all. Our token will live as a NEP5 on NEO, and that is how users will receive staking rewards, but we will support trading very early on Ethereum as well. (C) Google runs atop of other companies infrastructure (telecom providers), but it is valued more than all of them. The same thing can (and probably will) happen in token land, it will just take a while - when infrastructure becomes less important than applications and platforms atop of it. Like with the internet. NEX behind the scenes (as the DEX is cross-chain from start) is using NEO capabilities, but the future of both is broad and uncertain. As a long term strategy the NEX company will do what it can to improve its underling technology and remove risk from its business. Q: Is there a vesting period for the half of available NEX tokens that will not be sold during the ICO? (u/ETHERjimbo) (U) The founder and employee tokens (25%) will vest over two years. Q: Whitepaper uses an example $100m in the fee distribution calculation. If NEX is truly a security token and the whitepaper is your prospectus then you must provide further data on fwd looking statements. The NEX token gives the right to fee distribution. Given this you must provide assumption based forecasts on expedited fees over the next 3 years. This will support price discovery. How can the market properly price the token when fee expectations are unknown.(u/nsheahan82) (C) Fee structure is defined on whitepaper and version v1.1 contains a example section as stated. Version v2.0 (to be released very soon) contains the actual staking portion (25% to 75% linear over two years growth on staking). Guess work on the volume would in reality be very indigenous, look at volume behavior market wise (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin/#charts) so much variation. Following the 3 years trend we could say trading volume will be bigger than the world economy, clearly that is not happening. Q: Would NEX Staking be a 50% or 75% as stated on the whitepaper? (u/GMDaddy) (C)See answer above, it starts at 25% and goes up to 75%. The increase is linear and maximum period is 2 years. Cont: By linear, you mean like as an option where the user has the choice on picking whether to stake it from 25% up into 75%? (C)No, when you start staking it starts at 25% and by linear I mean it increases at a constant rate of about 2.08% per month for two years until it reach 75%. (U)To clarify fabio's comment: yes, you can choose a fixed rate of 75% by committing to stake for two years. Q: A massive attraction to NEX is the prospect of decentralised banking. What makes decentralised banking better than traditional banking? (u/kabelofthe3rd) (C)Our goal is to facilitate crypto trading at large, this touches from usage of applications to investing passing by funds management and invoicing solutions. What this enables is a digital cashless economy, we call it the smart economy. In the smart economy users are in control of their funds using this advanced technological tools to perform the tasks above and current banking solutions are no longer needed.
Q: Once NEX is rolled out, what will be the easiest way for US residents to buy some stake? I'm aware it's going to be issued as a security so I'm thinking the NEX token will only be tradable on NEX itself because most non decentralized exchanges will not list security's or tokens that don't pass the Howet Test. Is this correct?(u/Cozmo525)
(C)You are correct, for US persons you will need to wait other licensed exchanges list NEX or we acquire the proper licenses to allow US people to trade securities. Whatever happens first =) Q: Can I stake only NEX or also other Token f.e. NEO? (u/masi252) (C) NEO doesn't need to be staked, you already can claim GAS on NEX extension. Q: How do you plan to compete with Switcheo when they have first movers advantage and will be live for months before your platform will be? (u/toneeey1) (C)We plan to compete with anyone in our market by providing better products. Q: Will TNC be utilized? (u/molly1nora) (C)That is not planned, NEX has it own custom scaling solutions already in development. Q: Do you see exchanges not listing NEX, due to the fact that you guys are direct competition? (u/detnah) (C)That is a tricky question, I believe competition will not be with every exchange - in special centralized ones, as CEX they will more focused in national markets and we are going after broad chain level trade. Q: Is there a chance in the future you will also introduce other coins to the exchange sich as ERC-20 tokens etc? If so you'd blow all competition out the water. (u/Frank_Sinatra88) (C)Yes, ERC-20 tokens will be supported by Q3 together with NEP-5. Q: Will NEX APIs support mobile Dapps or Wallets? (u/johndon96) (C)Both, APIs are in general not target to a specific application, is up to the developers to use it in their products. Q: What are the team's plans to make NEX the best decentralized exchange and one of the best projects ever released? (u/its_me_TAG) (C)We will be working close to our costumers, never afraid of breaking status quo and never ending improvements. NEX will never be done. Q: Are there any plans to open up some Nex-Stores in several spots around the Globe? (u/michaeluebelhart) (C)No, but will have a online swag store :D Q: Is it possible that in the long future to have forex pairs listed on NEX? (u/BR8889) (C)In a future where fiat has token representations or stable coins are indeed stable. Q: When will we see the updated Whitepaper? (I know for example that you plan to integrate ERC20 tokens earlier than mentioned in the original Whitepaper) (u/mambor) (C) Target is this weekend. We could delay if redacting detects things that should be changed/improved. Q: What is your go-to-market strategy? (u/Dux_AMS) (C) We already have >100k users. ;)

Stellar Lumens vs Other Cryptocurrencies • Lumens vs. Bitcoin: Jed McCaleb spoke at Distributed Markets in 2017 about the advantages, but more importantly, the disadvantages of Bitcoin. Listen to the talk here. Jed said, “Bitcoin is this awesome innovation. The first thing it does is converts a real world resource, electricity, into a digital asset. So it takes something from the real world and puts it into the digital realm. The second thing it does is provides immutable public record. It’s basically a database that everyone can see but no one change arbitrarily… That’s great, Bitcoin solves the double spin problem [ of proving possession and transmitting volume]… [However, to fix the problems of bitcoin] you might think well maybe we’ll just kind of keep adding [software] to Bitcoin until we get there, but that’s not really the way software works. You want to have the design from the beginning and solve these simple issues. Bitcoin was designed to be a new currency, it wasn’t really designed to be this unifying universal payment network. So that’s what Stellar does. It solves these three remaining issues.” • Lumens vs. Bitcoin #2: According to wired.com, "Bitcoin mining guzzles energy - and it's carbon footprint just keeps growing." Wired says "Today, each bitcoin transaction requires the same amount of energy used to power nine homes in the US for one day... The total energy use of this web of hardware is huge—an estimated 31 terawatt-hours per year. More than 150 individual countries in the world consume less energy annually. And that power-hungry network is currently increasing its energy use every day by about 450 gigawatt-hours, roughly the same amount of electricity the entire country of Haiti uses in a year." Because Stellar is based on a consensus algorithm rather than mining, it takes much less energy to run the Stellar network. The Poseidon Foundation decided to build their platform on Stellar rather than Ethereum or Bitcoin because of this (twitter source). • Lumens ICO tokens vs. Ethereum ICO tokens: According to Stellar.org, "traditionally, ICO tokens have been issued on the Ethereum network in the form of ERC20 tokens. ERC20 tokens are easy to issue and are infinitely customizable using Ethereum’s smart contracting language. However, recent events have highlighted and exacerbated some weaknesses of the network, including slow transaction processing times for the network during ICOs and increasingly expensive gas prices (by fiat standards) for transactions and smart contract execution. Moreover, many organizations require only basic tokens; they adopt the risk of Ethereum’s Turing complete programming language without taking advantage of many of its benefits." "While Ethereum has the most expressive programming capabilities, we believe Stellar is the best choice for ICOs that do not require complex smart contracts. Stellar’s primary goal is to facilitate issuing and trading tokens, especially those tied to legal commitments by known organizations, such as claims on real-world assets or fiat currency." • Stellar vs. Ethereum #2: The median transaction time on Stellar is 5 seconds, compared to approximately 3.5 minutes on Ethereum (source). Stellar has a negligible transaction fee (.00001 XLM ~= $0.0000002) with no gas fee for computation, while depending on the complexity of the computation, the median cost for a transfer on the Ethereum network is $0.094. Security: While both Stellar and Ethereum run on a decentralized network, the Stellar network has fewer security pitfalls. Stellar uses atomic transactions comprised of simple, declarative operations while Ethereum uses turing complete programming capabilities which produces less auditable code and greater risk of exploitable vulnerabilities(source). Recently, a security flaw in the Ethereum network froze millions of dollars. According to Mobius ariticle written by David Gobaud, "On November 6, 2017, Github user deveps199 'accidentally' triggered a bug in Parity, a popular Ethereum mult-sig wallet, that froze more than $152 million in Ether across 151 addresses. The bug impacted several token sales including Polkadot, which has had ~$98 million out of its recent $145 million sale frozen." "Mobius had none of its ongoing pre-sale Ether frozen because we do not trust Ethereum’s Smart Contract based multi-sig wallets given the vast Turing complete attack surface and did not use one. Security broadly is one of the main reasons the MOBI token that powers the DApp Store is a Stellar Protocol token and not an Ethereum token." • Lumens vs. Ripple: According to Wall Street Bitcoin Exchange, "Many investors like to compare the company [Stellar] to Ripple, and there are a lot of similarities, being that some of the founders worked on the Ripple team. In what can now be looked at as another blockchain development drama that plays out on chat boards and in interviews all across the globe. Stellar declared they fixed Ripple’s problems with their hard fork, however, Ripple has failed to admit to any of the flaws in its design that the Stellar team has pointed out." The article concludes by saying, "We Choose XLM Over XRP For 2018. That is why we are going with Stellar Lumens over Ripple in our portfolio for the rest of 2017 and 2018. After holding Ripple for a long time this year, it just never seems to make the big break like other names with bigger market caps like Bitcoin Cash, Dash, and Litecoin have. While we are holding on most all our larger market caps, we feel that Stellar Lumens will be one of the break out coins for 2018." . . Conclusion The stellar.org team is doing an amazing job making partnerships and pioneering the use of blockchain technology for various types of transactions. What we are seeing is a new technology that can actually be used to solve real-world problems. As a community, we need to continue supporting Stellar and we will quickly see it power transactions across the world. What are your thoughts about Stellar? What do you see in the future of Stellar? Market News Volatility is the theme for the week as Bitcoin remains in a choppy sideways range. Hopes were raised and dashed as Bitcoin began a slow climb back up to $13,000, only to plummet back down to $11,000 towards the end of the week. [CryptoNovel] Smells like Satoshi spirit (Part One)
Hi, all. I'm CryptoWukong([email protected]). As an enthusiast of blockchain and cryptocurrency, I wrote a novel in that area. Because this novel is my first work, it may be a bit sloppy or boring. But if you could cheer me up with a little interest, it would be very helpful for me to write my next novel. I will share this novel in a two or thtee part series, and this is part one. Enjoy your reading. *Legal Notice: This post is for the purpose of providing personal works, so please be careful in your utilizing them. Was it just a hangover or did he have a dream of his palmy days? Anyway, now he just hate himself for drinking like a dog last night. His former scoop lay on the floor to welcome him, as if it is proving that he was not suffering from a hangover after getting his heavy body out of bed. 「Satoshi Nakamoto, the serial killer of Satoshis」 After gulping down cold water, he feels as if he can remember last night like a film that is scattered everywhere. "Satoshi..." It happened a few years ago and it was quite forgotten by the public, but when he looked back on it, Joseph even thought he'd rather have not had the scandal. Satoshi, who launched Bitcoin in early 2009, paved the way of new monetary and financial systems in the world and disappeared along the way. However, developers who saw its potential continued to develop and apply, and as time went on, more and more people participated and added value into it. Thanks to the effort, Bitcoin showed off its influence from some point on, even the existing financial institutions could not ignored anymore. But in the process, those who claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto began to appear, and at one point such persons began to be murdered without any trace. Joseph, who was a big fan of blockchain and cryptocurrency, was personally and professionally interested, and he sensed that he could do something big as a reporter. It was a really good touch, and became a reality in the end. (Doorbell ringing) "Joseph, are you home?" Yesterday, Henry, who is Joseph's younger friends from school, rang the doorbell and yelled. "Jo, are you in there? Did something happen to you? (Knocking on the door strongly) Henry began knocking at the door with frustration. "Stop it. I'm coming!" Joseph opened the door calmly, as if it wasn't the first time this had happened. "Hey, what are you doing without answering your phone?" "What do you think I did?" "Have you been sleeping? Oh my,,, I thought something was wrong." Henry was concerned about Joseph and often visits him because Joseph became depressed seriously. But Henry is not always welcomed when visiting and taking care of him . As going inside the house, Henry saw the article about the scandal on the floor. "I think we should go out for some fresh air and to eat. I don't want to see you depressed so pitifully at home" "..." "Come on, Jo" When Henry tried to pull him out of the house, Joseph took his hat pretending to not to be able to resist. It was a normal day as usual, but the world was changing day after day. Especially in the economic field, the whole world is experiencing an era of transformation into a new economic and financial system. The advent of Bitcoin in early 2009 had a significant impact on the existing status of the US dollar, yen and other currencies, and governments, central banks, and even major companies in developed countries began to seek strategies to take the lead in the new financial era by benchmarking it while keeping an eye on the growth of Bitcoin. When they were ready enough, they calmly waited for the biggest bubble in cryptocurrencies including bitcoin, even intervened to make it happened. However, the moment big bubble broke, major countries have revealed their hidden claws, and the maximum bubble began to burst, Bitcoin slowly descends into glory for several reasons. Meanwhile, China was the first country to seized the opportunity to get token hegemony. Joseph and Henry, who decided to have brunch, settled down in the corner of their favorite restaurant. "I think China was very clever" Henry spat out as waiting for the menu he had ordered. "What are you talking about?" Joseph replied, looking out the window as if he was not interested. "Look. China, which was cracking down on cryptocurrencies at the national level, issued national token based on Proof of Work. It was a big surprising. In some way, they would have preferred the most intuitive and straightforward method of proof as a one-party state, and they were probably confident that they wouldn't lose the computing power initiative based on the abundance of energy resources. What's interesting is that the token name is ONE. I think it was derived from the national slogan 'One China', but it's ironic that network on Proof of Work could bifurcate at any time" "That's reasonable explanation" Joseph said bluntly as getting the ordered meal as if he were slightly interested in talking. "Another interesting thing is that China issued 1.5 billion tokens. They seem to have set the volume to fit its population, meaning one token for one person, and it revealed China's socialist characteristics in that way" "Maybe it's true. China's socialism, highlighted by Deng Xiaoping in the past, highlighted everyone becoming wealthy under the Communist Party's leadership. And based one the socialism, it outwardly appealed to the people that each person can have one token, while inwardly controlling hash power to roll in money just like the way the vested interests did in the past. This is it. They pretended not to be interested in blockchain and cryptocurrencies but spent a lot of money in researching behind the scene" Joseph finally gave his opinion as showing off his knowledge. "Wow, you are awesome, Jo. Anyway, I think it's a bit scary how China has been through because they are still trying to emerge as a global hegemonic power over the U.S., even after they experienced trade dispute were with the U.S. and then wept away by civil war" "In that sense, the U.S. accepted the token economy in their way and turned it into a token economy democracy." "I know what and why they did. As we know, there are 50 states in the U.S., and they have the same numer of validators. In particular, I think it was Hail Mary that they issued national token based on Delegated Proof of Stake(DPoS). That way, they can measure how much the value of local brand is through competition in good faith while maintaining communities' uniqueness. More surprisingly, they could keep U.S.' unique electoral voting system based on DPoS in every election including the presidential election" "Maybe it was good to get election campaign fund at first. Actually, it was easier to pay cryptocurrency than fiat money, and at that time, it was a lot better to get cryptocurrencies because their price showed a constant boost. The politicians who knew much about cryptocurrencies won their elections, and even the president who was friendly toward cryptocurrencies, sympathized with pro-cryptocurrency Congress, and they altogether made the new thing called 'the tokenized economic system'. Even the Federal Reserve colluded with the administration and Congress on the condition that it maintained its existing mandate and power. Only ordinary people worshipped the innovation and then had nothing left in the end" "Well, this is another story but ordinary people like the basic income system though. As artificial intelligence became common, our jobs were threatened first. In the old industrial revolution, we expected that new technology would create new jobs. But this time it's totally off the mark. In that mood, there was a consensus on the introduction of the basic income system. We've solved the problems of the basic income system in the past: lack of tax revenue and distribution of the revenue. But the problems were solved by issuing token. It also reduced the cash in the underground economy. I feel like a new world has influenced in many ways" "That's because we've now got a mature society where people could be satisfied with their basic income and happily do what they really wanted to do. Fortunately, we've established a lot of places to use the token income rapidly. The bottom line is that both basic income and token focus on utilization, not possession. So far, it's been successful" "There you go, Jo! As you said, the token system was a timely technology and policy." Joseph finished the meal with a slight frown shrugging off compliments. "Satoshi Scandal..." Joseph exhaled as small as a sigh. The scandal began with a well-known Australian developer who was one of victims in a series of murders where those who claimed they were real Satoshi were killed one by one. The way of killing was cruel and the scenes of the killing were as dispersed: the US, China, Europe, Asia and so on. While cryptocurrency supporters got widly excited about that, the national investigative agencies just looked incompetenct in the serial killings for slow investigations. Soon after, they began tracking it in a worldwide collaboration. At the same time, Joseph was inspired by his animal instinct and persistent research finally pointed Satoshi out as the serial killer, and this scandal was his biggest scoop. https://i.redd.it/o6kj8wy3vbg31.jpg As a result, Joseph became a star journalist, and registered his personal token, then his personal token exchange rate skyrocketed. He even established a one-man media company with his name, making himself a famous journalist. However, when the world's most collaborative investigative agencies fell into the sidekick of the scandal, the governments and authorities of those countries involved in the investigation have rather sacked Joseph through media brainwashing and have accused him of being a serial killer. When Joseph was in the midst of popularity and persecution, the joint investigation authorities were closing in on a suspect of serial killing. Eventually, the suspect committed suicide, leaving behind a suicide note with a private key in Satoshi wallet containing one million bitcoin. So the scandal of the century came to an end, and Joseph remained an issuemaker for a while at the same time as the charges were cleared. Meanwhile, Bitcoin marked the last rally for the highest market ever since the scandal. "Since then, Bitcoin used its last strength..." "What? What did you just say, Jo?" "No, it's not a big deal. Let's get out of here" Joseph went outside with Henry in a hurry. Some days later, Joseph stopped by his favorite bar and sat on the place where he always sit. He just sat staring for some minutes, listening to bar songs. But soon, all kinds of thoughts came across his mind. He didn't want to admit it, but he'd rather die than being treated like a has-been because of his damn pride. What's more annoying is the reality of Joseph's personal token exchange rate, which has been on the decline. It has not been long since there has been the individual token system, but it has become a global trend with demand exploding, mainly for influential people. With the introduction of the token economy system in full swing by country, financial authorities were able to make personal tokens that is linked to the national token through screening by the financial authorities, and these individual tokens were valued according to the national token in real time. The national token is based on the median wage of employees in the country, so higher than 1 means more than the middle class, and lower than 1 means there is no economic leeway. If you comply with the regulations of the authorities, you'll be able to build many business models based on individual tokens such as staking, loans, dividends and so on. Indeed, new era has come when individuals have become small economic players, and big individuals and corporations with influence are second only to a single bank or financial system. '0.65382139' Joseph's personal token exchange rate blinked on his smartwatch screen. Since he made him famous with the scandal then, his token rate was ten times more than the current rate but the reality is harsh now. Nevertheless, the reason for living his life is that there are people who support me like Henry with the faint hope that one day he will be able to hit another jackpot. Henry, his younger alumni, has been working as an influencer in a decentralized autonomous organization(DAO) created by a well-known businessman. While one had a single identity as a nation's citizen, they now has another strong identity in the token community where each belongs. Feeling the same sense of homogeneity in the same community, participants are engaged in social activities aside from one's nationality and religion, and are also engaged in token-based consumption activities. Joseph suddenly wanted to see Henry, but decided to have his own time this time. He took a laptop out of his bag to write a column, trying to ignore his crumbling pride. Maybe it was because of the slight drunkenness, he wanted to write an article about a serious topic. 「Return to Sash caused by aliases and anonymity, coincident or inevitable?」 Bitcoin, which was released in early 2009, paved the way for cryptocurrency transactions that can be traced through distributed ledger technology thanks to 'aliases', although it can't certain who the transaction participants are. However, 'aliases' evolved to 'anonymity' as it met the desire to protect personal information that was close to human instincts over time, and eventually combined with advanced electronic cryptology and a huge token economy. Indeed, swiss bank accounts that anyone wanted to have went into their digital asset wallets. But no matter how anonymous it is, the moment a technical defect occurs or is transferred to a non-anonymous coin, its anonymity disappears and the transaction details may be exposed. Meanwhile, the government believed that they had secured a master key to open the token world by establishing a perfect token tracking system that would be possible to trace any transactions. But unlike that judgment, when the token economy permeates the daily lives of the whole generation, the token system with anonymity technology spread to the world without any problem. And then developed countries that have studied and monitored token system for a long time finally concluded that leaving uncontrollable anonymity and token economy would be such a handicap to gain vested interests in the future. This life-and-death check created unexpected repercussions: conflicts between the old and new generation. https://i.redd.it/qzr8h698vbg31.jpg The old generation, who was still accustomed to cash, began to return to cash in protest against the government and the young generation, who recognized tokens as daily currency from their birth, ridiculed the old generation and used them even more as the government kept them in check. By then, however, a fatal flaw in the anonymity protocol occurred and there was a great confusion when the biggest bubble in cryptocurrencies including bitcoin fell at a similar time. In conclusion, there was a rift in trust and support for decentralized tokens due to their aliases and anonymity which were considered safe, transparent and able to protect personal information. Also, major crypocurrencies, which had high brand value, just survived and became a means of preserving anarchists' assets. At the same time, some developed countries have been eager to promote national tokens, claiming that the only reliable assets including even anonymous tokens can be developed well only by nation. Is it just a coincidence or is it inevitable that all the suspicious events took place in this process? Joseph suddenly lost his concentration wondering whether it was hard to write or it was because of a drunkenness. And he decided to edit it later and got out of the bar. There were many people on the streets friday night, and he strode home past the crowd. No one in the crowd recognized him unlike the past, but he still remembered himself and people back then. After the Satoshi scandal, many expected more provocative and conspiratorial articles from Joseph but he hated it. However, he instinctively began to pour out attention-grabbing articles to keep his fans from being forgotten. Was that a wrong judgment? He had had his day after the cryptocurrency bubble burst. Like so many tokens, he also lost his own value because he failed to show sustainable talent. But tonight he wrote for a long time and felt like he's back in the old days. As if he wants someone to know his feeling of pride, he is lost in his thoughts again sitting on a roadside bench and watch people passing by. Although current Bitcoin's symbolism and impact has been considerably ruined compared to that of its former, he thought it was 'falling of glory' that would one day happen anyway. Because Bitcoin has shown enough value and possibility, other token projects have experienced less trial and error and are able to settle at a faster rate, and Mass adoption of the token has built up a big industry and brought forth a new paradigm for real economy. The point here is why it fell from glory. It is widely believed that the reason was not one, but exploded at a certain time with a variety of reasons. First of all, the scandal turned Satoshi out to be a brutal figure, who had had apparently existed but not at the same time. Some even raised the conspiracy that Satoshi's suicide note with the private key on his wallet was fabricated by the government or authorities, and that the real killer was definitely a puppet of the authority. Whether it's true or not, what's clear is that Satoshi is recognized as a cruel being in most people's brains. Another reason is the ambivalence of the token. Although the Internet, for example, has shown immediate news and innovation that has given birth to big data in the past, many events and accidents that might have been ignored quietly, have spread rapidly throughout the world through the Internet. Eventually, the Internet platform turned into a political propaganda tool that the world is violent and so must be able to calm the turmoil only with force. The blockchain, which is more than Internet-wide and highly leveraged, has also had a special economic mechanism called 'token', although it has built a huge distributed network and instant digital community like Internet. But when this trait combined with human greed and crowd psychology, a 'New Totalitarianism' has been triggered. This was possible because the extreme supporters of Bitcoin and the anarchists built up spiritual solidarity, feeling homogeneity with each other, and tokens including Bitcoin became their economic basis. New totalitarian community that transcended nationality was inspired by the cunning incitement of shadow governance, causing bloodshed and terrorism in many parts of the world. And in doing so, such events drew the limits of Satoshi's spirit on its own. Then, Satoshi became a negative perception among people asid from the image that he was just a murderer. However, there is a certain reason for its fall of glory: its bubble is over. As Satoshi was finally found to be a serial killer who committed suicide, Bitcoin recorded the highest-ever rally, and presented the biggest bubble ever in history. But soon the marketcap of cryptocurrency shrank due to the lack of network security affected by the endless political squabbling of ASIC mining groups or other big groups and the intervention of the market by powerful institutions that looked at Bitcoin as an eyesore. Joseph suddenly became confused as thinking about the rise and fall of bitcoin he had covered in the past. He just wanted to go home for a rest. Looking back on bitcoin's history, which once raised expectations that it would replace u.s. dollar as well as gold, he felt some similarity with it because it was over-rapped with his history. When he arrived at the front of the house and opened the front door, he saw something through a gap under the door. He found a briefcase stuck in a gap under the door and began to figure out what it was. He reached out and carefully pulled the corner of the envelope, wondering who stabbed a newspaper or something that he didn't subscribe to. And he found four letters written just below it, along with the words 'supreme confidentiality'. 'LUCY' Source : www.satoshicode.com[SatoshiCode](www.satoshicode.com)
A Class by Itself: Based on this lecture and the book “Zero to One, ” by Peter Thiel Rock, paper, scissors. Innovation beats competition. Why? Because a true innovation is an order of magnitude better than what had existed previously. Because an innovation creates something new it can form a monopoly. It is what Peter Thiel describes as going from 0 to 1. By contrast, competition takes something that previously existed and replicates it, seeking perfection, differentiating only through minor variation. Competition is psychologically unhealthy and detrimental to value creation. Competition is going from 1 to N. Bitcoin was an innovation. It was a 0 to 1, order of magnitude improvement, that really created something new. At the genesis of the Bitcoin block-chain in 2009 it had a monopoly of the crypto-currency market. It was in a class by itself where it could dominate. People that recognized that early were able to make a lot of money. Yay! Developing Ethereum from the proven concepts of Bitcoin was another innovation. It was another 0 to 1, order of magnitude improvement, that really created something new. At the genesis of the Ethereum main-chain in 2015 it had a monopoly on the smart contracting market. It was in a class by itself. It had a several year lead in that specialized market, where it could dominate. People that recognized that early were able to make a lot of money. Yay! A secret about nature. We think of losers as those who can’t compete because they are too weak or dim-witted or lazy. But most competitors are losers too. They lose because it’s difficult to differentiate your efforts in a populated field. Because power law distribution is real and present in competence hierarchies, the larger the field of competitors, the more likely you are to shake out nearer the bottom than the top. Certainly you can get better at something through practice, but the larger the group of contenders, the more average your results are likely to appear. Furthermore, the tendency is to take an adversarial stance toward competitors, which leads to a large amount of wasted effort and pointless, destructive emoting. Competition is for losers, especially when you could dominate in a class by yourself. They say a Jack of all trades is master of none. If this is true, and competing in a crowded field is likely to yield only average results, then one path to success is to specialize in a niche where you can dominate and where there are few competitors. Be like the giant panda. Eat nothing but bamboo. Monopolize that niche. This is a secret about nature. Amazon became the behemoth it is today in on-line sales by starting with a small niche market where it could dominate, books. Pooled block-chain security and inter-chain communication is a similar small niche market. Amazon innovated by combining computer technology with human action to provide the best service at the lowest cost to achieve a monopoly and in doing so created a 10X improvement over what had existed preciously. The need to initially attract miners and then to coordinate hard forks is a major impediment to innovation in the block-chain space. Rapid deployment and iteration should facilitate quicker evolution of the technologies built on Polkadot. The crypto space can be divided into many smaller markets. Currency, value storage, trading/exchange, smart contracting, oraclizing, compute, identity services, obfuscation services, gaming and many more that are not mentioned here or have not yet been created. A state machine that is customized to task is likely to be the best solution for many of these markets. The ability to upgrade the state machine and integrate novel state transition functions seamlessly into a network of chains on the fly without a hard fork is a Zero to One innovation in block-chain technology. Amazon progressively moved outward from book sales, systematically phagocitising and dominating other small markets to out-compete them by creating economies of scale. Because substrate allows for rapid deployment of innovative chains that can upgrade without the need for coordinated hard forks, substrate chains will dominate older tech and phagocitize their markets. On-the-fly upgrades without the need for coordinated hard forks is an order of magnitude, 10X impovement over what has existed previously. A secret about people. Secrets about people are secrets that people don’t know about themselves. We can find the secrets people aren’t telling us by asking what is forbidden or taboo. Fanatical zeal over decentralization is a cultural norm in the crypto space. Decentralization is a crypto-meme. Projects viewed as centralized are vociferously attacked on social media. This makes sense for currencies in the meat space. Central(ized) banks invariably dilute the value of the currencies they issue through inflation at the expense of users and especially holders/savers. Because there is no freedom without economic freedom, the complete decentralization of crypto-currencies with fixed, unchangeable inflation rates and uncensorable and immutable transactions makes sense. But is complete decentralization of every crypto application appropriate or even desirable? Consider smart contracting. The first smart contract that was really successful at raising a lot of capital was the DAO. After raising more than the GDP of some countries, the contract was promptly hacked and the capital was taken resulting in a contentious chain split for Ethereum. The Ethereum Foundation functioned as a centralized authority in this instance to restore the funds to the original contributors at the expense of losing the right to claim that the system was decentralized, completely destroying the original missions’ value proposition of unstoppable applications. The DAO starkly illustrated that complete decentralization is not always desirable, indeed it may not even be possible. This is a secret about people. People need formal governance over the execution of contracts because human interpretation of meaning is variable. The need for governance over computers shouldn’t be surprising. Computers are great at analyzing large amounts data, but don’t begin to recognize meaning. The human mind has evolved for the abstract nature of our universe. Humans are great at analyzing the abstract, but frequently disagree about meaning. Computers are nothing but tools for humans. Tools need to be controlled to work towards a meaningful purpose. Computers can be used to search for patterns in enormous volumes of data. We have seen this in the anti-fraud systems deployed by Paypal, and later with the systems developed by Palantir, where computers are used to search for patterns and then humans decipher the meaning in the context of our world. Computers are great for finding odd patterns in enormous piles of data, but a human mind is also required to determine if the odd patterns actually has meaning. Same goes for a block chain. The computer will faithfully and flawlessly execute whatever state transition function they are programmed with, but they can’t judge the morality. Only a human mind can determine if a given transaction is theft, or fair ball, and the humans involved will often disagree on this point. Polkadot is innovating along along the dimension of governance. Governance systems create a symbiosis between man and machine, similar to Amazon’s fraud detection programs. Empirically, we know that crypto-economic systems tend to fracture along social lines. They fracture along social lines because they are economic systems, and economics is the study of human action. Human behavior can’t just be crossed out of an economic system like some variable in an algebraic equation. Economics doesn’t work like that. Because a crypto-economic network is really only useful when humans interact with it, effective governance systems are necessary to satisfactorily resolves disputes and keep the network cohesive. Polkadot is at least an order of magnitude improvement over the systems that came before it along multiple dimensions: governance, inter-chain communication, on-the-fly upgrades without co-ordinated hard forks. At the genesis of the Polkadot relay chain in 2019 it will have a monopoly, or near monopoly, along each of these dimensions of innovation. Concurrent innovation along multiple dimensions puts Polkadot in a class by itself. People that recognize this early should be able to make a lot of money. Yay!
